Take 5: Emily Hingle

Emily Hingle, Social Media Coordinator

Emily Hingle has been working in the field of journalism since she was in college at the University of New Orleans, graduating in 2010. Her field of expertise lies in New Orleans culture and entertainment, and she is proud to highlight the amazing stories behind the Louisiana businesses, vendors, and agents that LCI Workers’ Comp works with on a regular basis.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I enjoy being able to work with small business owners. Their commitment to making their businesses thrive is inspiring, and it’s not just for their own benefit. Many of the business owners do what they do because they’re fulfilling a need in their community that would otherwise not be met. These entrepreneurs some of the smartest, most driven individuals I’ve ever met.

What object could you not live without?

I would say that I cannot live without my laptop (and the charging cable, of course). I know that many Millennials and Gen Zers don’t see the need for having a laptop because they feel that they can do everything they need on their phones. However, as a writer I need a larger screen to view my work properly. I also do video and photo editing that I really need a large screen to do.

What is your favorite outdoor activity?

I have two favorite outdoor activities that I can’t choose between. I enjoy growing vegetables in my backyard, and I like to take my dog to parks and the lakefront. I like growing vegetables like peppers, corn, herbs, tomatoes, and more because it’s very exciting to get enough produce from which to make a beautiful meal. My old dog Charlie demands being taken to parks so that he can get smell everything in sight. At his age, he just wants to sit and watch the world go past him.

What is your favorite app right now?

I like the Untappd app. It’s like a social media for craft beer drinkers. You can look up any beer or any brewery and “check-in” to review a beer. I like it because I can keep track of all of the beers from small, local breweries that I try out or even beers from around the world.

When I evacuated to Houston during Hurricane Ida, the app informed me of a craft beer tasting event at the Museum of Natural Science. It was one of the best beer tastings I’ve ever experienced!

Where did you grow up? What was the best part about growing up there?

I was born and raised in Lafayette in the heart of Cajun Country. I liked the pace of life there compared to what people say childhood is like in New Orleans. It’s a little bit slower and kinder, but everyone knows how to have a great time together. I have developed a deep love for Cajun and Zydeco music because of my upbringing.
